Cutting Instructions for 1 – Block (10½ unfinished)

Background

(4) 3” squares

(4) 1 ½” by 3” rectangles

Body/Focus

(2) 3” by 10 ½” rectangles

(1) 2 ½” by 10 ½”rectangles

Contrast Trim

(2) 1” by 10 ½” strips

Top/Bottom (Black)

(2) 1 ½” by 5 ½” strips

1. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the 3” Background squares. Match a 3” Background square to each end of a 3” by 10 ½” focus print rectangle right sides together. Sew on the drawn line in the direction shown Fig A. Trim the seam to ¼” and press toward the Background. Make two of these units.
2. Sew a 1” by 10 ½” contrast trim strip to one side of the 2½” by 10 ½” focus rectangle right sides together and press toward the focus Sew the second contrast trim strip to the other side and press to the focus fabric.
3. Sew a 1 ½ by 3” background pieces to each end of the Black 1 ½ by 5 ½ strips and press toward the black.
4. Lay out the sections to match the picture in FIG B.

TIP: Press each seam as shown, before you sew on the next unit, it’s much easier that way Fig B.
