CRAYON CHALLENGE WINNERS

Crayon

Wow! What a display of color and artistry during the Crayon Challenge. I am so proud of all of you and so happy to be a part of the most enthusiastic and creative group of fabric artists around. Special thanks to Cece Blankenship and Shelly Hoffman who scrambled around like crazy to get all your items tagged and displayed in time for our voting. It was a big task with so many entries and such limited space but they did an amazing job. I hope you all were able to enjoy your tour of the finished projects. If anyone took some pictures of the items on display, please send them along and we’ll post them in a future Quilt Scraps.

Frog Collage

Congratulations to our Viewer’s Choice winner, Laurie Paurazas for her interpretation of her Green crayon. “It Ain’t Easy”, her whimsical frog, was the top vote getter among all entries and Laurie won a $25 QIAD gift card …and a box of crayons. Laurie reports that she decided at the March guild meeting that the crayon challenge sounded like a lot of fun and armed with a photo of a cute frog she jumped (haha) right in. Doing this small piece using Susan Collins’ collage techniques with just over 3 weeks to get it finished kept her from worrying over every little piece; she just made a choice and went with it.

Obviously, the viewers loved it!

Our random drawing winners, recipients of $10 QIAD gift cards and boxes of Crayons were:

 Robin

Mini: Robin Sutherland

Robin used her Scarlett crayon to create “You can’t just tell a crayon by its cover, or name for that matter”

RemasterDirector_V0

Just the top: Delores Wydra

Using her Red Violet crayon as inspiration, Delores titled her quilt “Never give up”. After her first attempt was (in her words) a disaster, she wanted to redeem herself with a more traditional pattern.

Julie Calvario

Quilt: Julie Calvario

Julie told us that she loves black and white quilts with a pop of color and was so happy to pick “plum” as her crayon. Though the Colourwerx pattern “Colourstruck” is designed to be a black/white quilt with a lightning bolt of color she used plum and is “plum delighted “with her quilt.

If you would like to keep the fun going, don’t forget to enter the next challenge, Flags of Freedom for an opportunity for more creativity and a chance to win at our July meeting.
