Happy Holidays Quilters!
I hope you are all having a terrific holiday season, and have registered for our Holiday Party on December 13, 2023 at The Fields Church at 2265 Camino Vida Roble in Carlsbad. It should be a great time, with games and lunch in addition to our regular business meeting. Please keep in mind that this meeting is open to members only.
Our Holiday Party will be our last meeting at The Fields Church. We want to thank the church for their hospitality over the past four months. It has been a good place for our meetings, but beginning in January we will be at our new venue, the El Corazon Senior Center, 3302 Senior Center Drive, Oceanside. Our speaker, Jan Kretz, will be telling us everything we need to know about stars. This is a great opportunity for you to bring friends and introduce them to the guild!
At our Holiday Party we will also be inducting our 2023 Board, elected at our recent November guild meeting. The Board Members for 2023 will be:
Thank you to all of you for your willingness to be of service to our guild. And a special thanks to Debbie Timmons and Sandy Buckley for their hard work on the nominating committee to bring us this excellent board.
We have some exciting activities coming up in 2023, so be sure to check out all the opportunities contained in this newsletter. Make it part of your New Year's resolutions to have more fun with El Camino Quilters.
Happy Holidays and Happy Quilting!
Linda Stanwood
President
We have some terrific programs and workshops coming up. As you know, our December program will be a Christmas Party. It will be open to members only. We have games, prizes, lunch, drawings and lots of fun. We hope you have registered to join us. If you have not already done so, you have until the start of the December meeting to turn in your opportunity quilt tickets that you received as part of your membership packet. So get them filled and give those tickets to Cece Blankenship before we start the party on December 13 at 9:30. This will be our last meeting at The Fields Church in Carlsbad.
We have some great speakers and workshops lined up for 2023, so plan to join us and invite your friends! Meetings are open to the public for a small fee ($10) and workshops are open to the public if there is space available one week prior to the workshop. Members can also register for workshops on line. Here are some of our upcoming programs and workshops:
January - Jan Krentz will present the "Great Star review." Her workshop is Love that Lone Star.
February - Jean Impey will lecture on "All about Fabric." She will be presenting a workshop on Fabulous Faces at the newly reopened Grand Country Quilters.
March will be "Quilters University," a popular program of mini demonstrations presented by ECQ members. If you have a skill that you would like to teach in a short (15-20 minute) demonstration, please let Kris Doan,
April's program and workshop will be announced shortly.
May is our own Karen Brow-Meier who will present the "Magic of Movement." Karen will also be offering a workshop on a topic to be decided.
June is Candyce Grisham. She will lecture on Modern Dresden and her workshop is "Dresden Reimagined."
Guild meetings are the second Tuesday of the month. Workshops will take place the second Wednesday of the month, beginning at 9:30, at Quilt in a Day. Please note that February's workshop will be at Grand Country Quilters in San Marcos, instead of Quilt in a Day. Registration for workshops is open both on our website and at our guild meetings. Payment is required at the time of registration in order to hold your slot. We hope to see you at all of these exciting events!
Enjoy making a cute little quilted mug rug to exchange this year at our Guild's end of the year Holiday Party on December 13th. We are not being picky for this project--any color, any theme, no theme, any pattern, any method. All that we ask is for you to make your mug rug size 5"x10" or 6"x12" or somewhere in between. Have fun and be creative. Your mug rug must be quilted with a binding or self binding. Any questions? Just email Jeanette
Our Annual Quilting Retreat is coming up on February 2-5, 2023 at Vina de Lestonnac. This is very popular event for our El Camino Quilters. We still have a few spots available at the retreat for members and friends. If you are interested in attending, please notify Jo Anne Foster at
For those of you who have already signed up for the retreat, a check for your balance due made payable to Vina de Lestonnac is due by the December guild meeting, December 13. You can either bring your check to the meeting or mail it to Linda Pupols in advance of the meeting. You should have received an email recently from Jo Anne Foster setting out the amount of your balance. You can also calculate the balance due by subtracting $150 from the total amount shown on the Quilt Registration Form below.
