UFO CHALLENGE 2023

Please note: Due Date for Challenge #2 is JUNE 30th as was mentioned in our June meeting. Some of the paperwork incorrectly states July 31. We are sorry for the confusion.

UFO

We had a wonderful speaker for our June meeting. I’m inspired to start yet another project! "Hold your horses”, I say to myself!! How do I get all my ideas done? My head swirls with designs, colors, new ideas, QUILTS, QUILTS, QUILTS - I want to make more quilts! There are not enough hours in a day, days in a week, weeks in a year. FOCUS - darned if my mind can’t stay focused for long on just one project. Are any of you like me? That’s why I really like having my UFO challenges written down & a goal of a finish date.

I love to see the quilts come in so we can mark them off. Everyone’s projects are so unique & special. Can you believe that some of our talented members have ALL 4 of theirs done already? Well, I’m working hard to get my second one done in time. So if you are working on your first (a little late), your second (barely under the wire), your third (she plans ahead) or your fourth (over achiever) just keep on quilting & let’s get some of those beauties & oldies done so you can start on something new. Oh & for those that are already done with all four…  as they say in the south “Bless your little ole heart!" That is said a bit sarcastically but with a large dose of jealously. Ha ha ha. ♡ Honestly I’d love to be in your shoes…. There’s always next year…

Our July meeting will be the 2nd drawing for the $25.00 gift card! Don't miss your chance! & get started on your next project due Sept 30th.

Happy Quilting & Happy Fourth of July!, Mar

Vista Library Quilt Display - Update

Realistic black photo frame hanging on the wall. Vector .

We LOVE our connections with the communities surrounding us in the North County area.

As was mentioned at our last Guild meeting, we have been selected to display some of our quilts at the Vista Library this year during October, November and December.

The display will focus on Fall Holidays so anything that relates to Fall leaves, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa is welcome. We even have a couple of scarecrows and a snowman.

Thank you to those of you who have chosen to participate.

We will be working out the details for delivering and hanging our pieces so stay tuned.

And, if you’d still like to sign up, please contact Susan at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to add your name to the list.

BACK ON THE BUS AGAIN!

newbus small

Hello! We are Donna Green and Debbie Cahill, your new bus trip coordinators. We are looking forward to planning two fun bus trips each year beginning with Road to California in January 2024. You can expect more information on “Road” including sign up information starting in September.

As for the second bus trip in 2024, we have heard several suggestions: Long Beach International Quilt Show, visit to Hoffman and M&L, quilt run to shops in Orange and/or Riverside counties.  We want to plan the trip that most members are wanting to go on. So, visit our bus trips table beginning at the July guild meeting to let us know where you want to go. If you prefer, you can email your preference to Donna Green at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. (there are underscores after the d and e).

Flags of Freedom Challenge - Entries are Due!

flag

Just a reminder that your entry for the Flags of Freedom Challenge is due at the July meeting. There were over 50 participants signed up and I can’t wait to see the creativity and workmanship on display!

A reminder that we have three categories: Mini, Just-the-Top and Quilt.

Complete details including dimensions and requirements are on the website.

When you arrive at the July meeting, find the Challenge Display area and write your name on an entry slip indicating the category of your piece. You’ll get a number attached to your item and then it will be displayed for viewing by the rest of the members.

Everyone in attendance will have a chance to vote for Viewer’s Choice and we will have random drawings for prizes in each of the three entry categories and prizes will be awarded at the end of our July meeting.

If your quilt doesn’t have an intended recipient, please consider donating it to our Veteran’s Day Auction in support of local military organizations. Just another opportunity to get your beautiful projects out in the community.

And, if you missed the first two challenges this year, don’t worry. There will be one more Challenge beginning in August to wrap up our “Year of the Friend” (that’s a hint!)

Quiltlets

1quiltlets

If you are new to El Camino Quilters, you may not have seen, or even know about our Guild Quiltlet banner. And, if you are like me, you maybe haven’t quite gotten around to making your own Quiltlet because you didn’t even know what it was!

A Quiltlet is an 8½“ finished square that is pieced, appliquéd, fused, embroidered, or created using any method you wish.  The fabrics, colors and techniques you use are up to you; let your imagination run wild.  Use a design that relates to your interests or represents your favorite things. Use muslin or other light -colored fabric for backing and write your name, the date you joined the guild, and any other pertinent information you wish on the back or add a label. We’ve enjoyed reading and learning all about our Quilting friends by looking at the backs of the Quiltlets as they hang.

As you might imagine, over so many years and with so many members and Friendship Groups represented, our Quiltlet banner has become quite large and quite cumbersome to carry back and forth and display each month. And, it is so large it has even outgrown the quilt stand! So, to make this more manageable, beginning this month, we will start rotating the quiltlets represented on the banner with just a selection of them displayed each meeting.

Think of it as a sort of monthly Treasure Hunt to visit the banner and look at the Quiltlets.  Maybe you’ll see yours! Maybe you’ll see one that intrigues you and you can ask that new friend about their design. Maybe you’ll just be wowed by the beauty and creativity represented.

And, then, you can come back the following month and do it all over again while checking out the banner!

Complete instructions for Quiltlet construction can be found on our website and will be available at the July meeting.

Many thanks to Mary Ann Barbee for leading this effort for the Guild.

Please reach out to her with any questions.
