If you are new to El Camino Quilters, you may not have seen, or even know about our Guild Quiltlet banner. And, if you are like me, you maybe haven’t quite gotten around to making your own Quiltlet because you didn’t even know what it was!
A Quiltlet is an 8½“ finished square that is pieced, appliquéd, fused, embroidered, or created using any method you wish. The fabrics, colors and techniques you use are up to you; let your imagination run wild. Use a design that relates to your interests or represents your favorite things. Use muslin or other light -colored fabric for backing and write your name, the date you joined the guild, and any other pertinent information you wish on the back or add a label. We’ve enjoyed reading and learning all about our Quilting friends by looking at the backs of the Quiltlets as they hang.
As you might imagine, over so many years and with so many members and Friendship Groups represented, our Quiltlet banner has become quite large and quite cumbersome to carry back and forth and display each month. And, it is so large it has even outgrown the quilt stand! So, to make this more manageable, beginning this month, we will start rotating the quiltlets represented on the banner with just a selection of them displayed each meeting.
Think of it as a sort of monthly Treasure Hunt to visit the banner and look at the Quiltlets. Maybe you’ll see yours! Maybe you’ll see one that intrigues you and you can ask that new friend about their design. Maybe you’ll just be wowed by the beauty and creativity represented.
And, then, you can come back the following month and do it all over again while checking out the banner!
Complete instructions for Quiltlet construction can be found on our website and will be available at the July meeting.
Many thanks to Mary Ann Barbee for leading this effort for the Guild.
