So last month I brought up the subject of change.  This had to do with changing to our "Construction Zones".  This was a change that was initiated by us.  But what about the changes that we observe?

Years ago Cuddle had a 10'x10' storage space; now we have a 10'x20'.  Both were/are filled with fabric donations.  Even the donations have changed.  We have received fabrics that have increased in size and quality.  These are incorporated into all of the projects that we construct.  So over time our quilts, pillowcases, placemats, receiving blankets, and NICU blankets have gotten more colorful and just nicer in general.

This observable change just makes our job nicer too.

So we thank you for your donations and for working with these fabrics to produce beautiful items that give warmth and cheer to those who receive them.

Change...the word itself causes a fight or flight response in many people.  Not me!  I like change--especially if there's a big reason for it--but even a medium reason is good enough.

So, the name "Workshop" is shared by both Cuddle and Programs, which can cause some confusion.  Cuddle is free, but the other is not.  So in order to only have one kind of workshop, Cuddle will now become:            CUDDLE CONSTRUCTION ZONES

No eye rolling, ok?  I diligently searched my Roget's Thesaurus and eliminated names that were boring, obscure, not quite right, or down right obnoxious/politically incorrect.  Besides, we do construction and the word "Zone" is just a kick!  You know, quiet zone to danger zone; zoning in and/or out; and my fave...Fun Zone!

We will have "bosses" for our zones.  Candy Mittag and Jan Jordan will co-boss Oceanside El Corazon and San Marcos Senior Centers, while Julie Calvario will be the boss at QIAD.

Safety helmets and goggles are not required!  See you in the Zone!

The CUDDLE CONSTRUCTION ZONE!

Circles are interesting.

When we draw them, there is a definite start and end.  If we did a good job, you can't tell.

Cuddle is like that, too.  If we start the circle with donations of fabric, we progress around to cutting the pieces into kits or set them aside to make backs for quilt tops.  All of our helpers, many of whom are nonmembers, gladly make up quilts, NICU's, receiving blankets, pillowcases and placemats.  These are all gathered up and distributed to the many organizations that we work with.  This in turn makes room for the next donation which makes the start and end rather blurred as we progress around.  Our orbit has a rhythm to it that is predictable.  That's actually nice because none of us wants to reinvent this particular wheel...or circle.

CUDDLE Quilts

My Roget's Thesaurus keeps me from endless repetition which can easily put the reader to sleep.  I've come to depend on its collection of words that lead me to the ones that are just right...until now.

I was puzzling away with why quilts are special.  I went through all those possibilities of "close to" words that define "special" and not one of them worked.

After no small amount of circular reasoning I finally got to:  "But why are quilts special?"

It has nothing to do with words.

As we create each one, our thoughts, plans and heart are fused into the fibers and threads of our finished project.  That project is donated and I think the recipients of these quilts somehow get a sense of us through our work--now that is special!--especially the heart part!
