PRESIDENTS’ LETTER JUNE 2022

June has always been one of my favorite months, with the anticipation of that first day of summer and all the fun summer activities. Here at El Camino Quilters we have some great plans for summer! In July we will resume our tradition of the New Member Tea. So all of you quilters who have joined the Guild in the past two and a half years since our last New Member Tea should plan to attend!

In August, we are planning a bus trip to the Long Beach International Quilt Show. We will be showing our beautiful 2022 opportunity quilt at the show, so we need lots of white glove volunteers to work at the show and people to help us sell tickets for the opportunity quilt.

Here at El Camino Quilters we have a long tradition of members who have explored fabric arts beyond traditional quilts. We have a member who makes fabric dolls that have been displayed in art galleries. We have a member who makes baskets and recently offered a mini workshop on that technique. As you saw in May, Tara Ritacco has an amazing talent in indigo dying. Our June workshop will be a road trip to the Visons Museum of Textile Art in Liberty Station. Our new Friendship Group Coordinator, Lisa Coulombe, is offering to organize a Friendship Group around wearable quilting. We encourage you to explore these opportunities for expanding your art.

We have a new website coordinator. One of our newer members, Jen Frost, has volunteered to take over from Jeanette Blackburn as website coordinator. Thank you Jen for volunteering and thank you Jeanette for all your years of hard work on the website.

Happy Quilting!
Linda Stanwood
President
